Did You Know a Grapefruit Can Help Stage a Pressure Injury?

One of the things I enjoy most about working in a healthcare-related field is the challenge of taking complex topics and making them easy to understand, easy to use and easy to act upon.

While we often think about health literacy through the lens of patient and caregiver education, health care providers can also benefit from topic refreshers that don’t require reading a journal article or participating in continuing education.

That is one of the reasons why 3M partnered with Heather Hettrick, PT, PhD, CWS, CLT, CLWT, to create a video series that offers alternatives to the way clinicians discuss wound care and chronic conditions.

Each video tackles a pervasive and/or costly challenge in daily practice and uses common household items or analogies to share high-level learning in a few minutes.

One of the most popular videos involves Dr. Hettrick using a grapefruit to outline the stages of pressure ulcer/injury – a complicated and confusing process that is an essential part of daily patient care.

Check out the video below and look for more videos from the series soon.
